St. Joseph Public Schools Superintendent Ann Cardon says the district will be working on a new strategic plan this spring. She mentioned during her State of the Schools address at Upton Middle School that the previous plan has worked well, but the goals have been reached.
Those meetings will start in the coming months. Cardon added the district is forecasting another deficit in the 2013-14 school year, but until the state budget is finalized and they know exactly what the per pupil state funding level will be, she doesn't have exact figures. St. Joseph is operating with an assumption of being 250-thousand in the red and needing to pull that money from the district's emerency fund. That $250,000 figure is far less than the $1.3 million district officials thought they would have for a shortfall at the start of the year.
