Entergy Issues Palisades Statement Ahead Of NRC Webinar

Entergy is talking about the upcoming Nuclear Regulatory Commission webinar on the Palisades nuclear power plant this week. The parent company of the Covert Township facility says the plant is "safe and secure" with an NRC license to operate through 2031. The commission will discuss the phenomenon known as "pressurized thermal shock" tomorrow night, in which a large amout of cold water is injected into the reactor, which rapidly cools the reactor vessel. Palisades site vice president Tony Vitale says it's not a new topic or anything unique to Paslisades. He says they believe their test results will show the safety and strength of the reactor vessel, allowing it to continue operating through 2031. The NRC event will be held online Tuesday from 5 to 6 pm.
