State Representative Aric Nesbitt this week introduced legislation changing the Michigan Merit Curriculum to allow high school students to apply career and vocational training education to their graduation requirements. The Lawton Republican and other lawmakers said a one-size-fits-all curriculum is hurting the economy because there are plenty of available jobs going unfilled due to a lack of trained workers.
The bills are now before the House Education Committee. Senator John Proos of St. Joseph is co-sponsoring similar legislation in the Upper Chamber.
