BH Readying for Alternative Schooling

Long overdue. That's what Superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood is hearing from the community regarding alternative education. The Benton Harbor School Board received an update Tuesday night on where the program stands. Seawood says the district is in the second year of working with Comcast, who last year committed to putting in a computer lab in one of the districts buildings. Sorter Elementary, the sight of the new alternative school, has been picked to get the lab.

The software mentioned is what will be used as part of the curriculum at Sorter. Seawood says enrollment is now up to roughly 50 students for the alternative school which begins classes March 25. In a related matter, the board took action in keeping an expelled student expelled under the recommendation of a special committee. This student's parents are being notified of the alternative schooling available.
