Senator Levin Speaks About Retirement Decision

Senator Carl Levin is not going to seek another term on Capitol Hill. He announced his decision to retire this week, and says he will spend his last two years in the Senate focused on going after offshore tax evaders and chairing the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Listen:

Levin was first elected to the Senate in 1978 and has served in that chamber since 1979. This will be the first open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan in nearly 20 years, when Spencer Abraham beat Bob Carr in 1994 following the retirement of Senator Don Riegle. Several names are already being tossed around for the race, including Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley and Grand Rapids Congressman Justin Amash on the Republican side along with Democrats like Congressman Gary Peters and former Congressman Mark Schauer.
