With the time change this weekend comes the reminder to change the batteries in your smoke detector. Jim Crow is the Deputy Director for fire services with the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety and recommends having several detectors in your home.
Crow says for those who cannot afford a smoke detector, nearly every area fire department has some available for free. To obtain a free smoke detector from the city of St. Joseph, you must be a homeowner, as the responsibility for those falls on the landlord for rental properties.
