The finishing touches are being applied to the Benton Harbor Area Schools new alternative education program. Beginning next semester, in the old Sorter International elementary school building, six classrooms will hold students from sixth through 12th grade. Dr. Perry Davis who is helping run the program with the district, tells the board the program will be focused around computer based learning.
Superintendent Leonard Seawood says staff will be reassigned to run the building.
Seawood says the program will remove barriers to student success at other district schools. The entire program is being funded through federal grants, the grants will also pay for any extra hires. The program gets under way March 25th.
