Chickens Become Issue In Berrien Springs

Having chickens is apparently some sort of foul play in Berrien Springs. The "Herald Palladium" reports the Village Council is refering the issue of a resident having four chickens to its lawyer after it was brought up at Monday night's council meeting. Suzanne Walton wants to keep the birds, and has asked if it's something she needs to discuss with the planning commission, as having the livestock is against village ordinances. She removed the birds and took them to a friend's farm ahead of a March 1 deadline from the village to get them off her property. The Lake Michigan College student says she wants to have them as pets and for eggs. Walton works part-time at a dairy farm and didn't think having the birds in a part of Berrien County heavily reliant on agriculture would be a big deal.
