The Benton Harbor City Commission is working together with the Emergency Financial Manager in giving a break to first time water customers. The current deposit rate to become a water customer is $300, a resolution passed Monday night slashes that in half to $150. Commissioner Marcus Muhammad says he originally brought this initiative to EFM Tony Saunders.
The goal of the price reduction is to attract new citizens and businesses to the city while making things easier on them.
The commission voted unanimously to pass the resolution. With the advisement of EFM Saunders, the new rate goes into effect July 1st 2013.
