By week's end, Benton Harbor Area Schools will once again have an alternative education program within the district. The former Sorter International Elementary School at 1411 Pipestone Road will be the site of the venue, which opens March 1st. Students in grades six through 12 who are expelled will be able to attend the new program. Superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood tells the "Herald-Palladium" the idea is for the students to spend just a semester in the program, before they meet the goals set for them by the school district and can return to the main school system. The Sorter International building has room for roughly 100 students, but only about 20 will begin attending in March.
