Alleged Niles Bank Robber Arrested

An arrest has been made for the Chemical Bank robbery in Niles last week. 44-year-old Richard Smith of Benton Harbor was arrested Wednesday by officers from the FBI, Benton Harbor Police, Berrien County Sheriff's Department, Michigan State Police and Niles Police. He was taken into custody at a home in the 100 block of Catalpa Street in Benton Harbor without incident. He is charged with bank robbery and two counts of armed robbery and faces up to life in prison. Smith will be arraigned this afternoon at the Fifth District Couthouse in Niles.
