Money for Blight Elimination is Being Awarded in Southwest Michigan



Berrien-Cass-Van Buren County Michigan Works, the City of Plainwell and the Village of Constantine will receive money for blight elimination. The Michigan Department of Human Services, Michigan Land Bank and MSHDA are awarding 34 municipal, township and county entities nearly $15-million for the program. Dave Akerly with MSHDA explains what communities will be using the money for.

City Manager Erik Wilson says Plainwell is receiving $720,000, and has plans for its old paper mill.

Wilson says the $720,000 was the engineering estimate the city submitted for. Michigan Works of Berrien-Cass-Van Buren County is receiving $740,000, while the Village of Constantine is getting just over $10,000.
