South Haven Beach Parking Rates Rising

The last time parking rates in South Haven at the public beaches rose, Bill Clinton was President and John Engler was governor. That will change this year, as the City Council has approved a $2 increase per day from $5 to $7 for out-of-town visitors. The new rate will take effect on May 15. City Manager Brian Dissette says this is the first increase since 1996, when the charge was increased from $3 to $5. City residents can get a three-year sticker from the city to park for free at the beaches. Last year, beach parking resulted in $200,000 in revenue for the city. If you don't pay the fee, the ticket will be $20 if paid in a week and $30 after that.
