Congressman Fred Upton is not optimistic that the White House and lawmakers will reach an agreement to prevent $85 billion in budget cuts that were put off with the fiscal cliff solution.
Upton said the Obama administration was able to get extra revenue through the fiscal cliff work, and now lawmakers have to address what Republicans consider out-of-control federal spending. Roughly half of the looming budget cuts will hit the military. The White House is seeking approval of a $110 billion tax hike and spending cut plan to prevent the sequester.
