NRC Weighs In On Palisades Shutdown



The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is weighing in on the current shutdown of the Palisades nuclear power plant. Spokeswoman Viktoria Mitlyng says they sent an expert to the site immediately after it was shut down on Friday due to a component cooling water system leak. Mitlyng says the leak is not radioactive and is not a threat to safety. As far as when the plant is returned to service, neither the NRC nor Palisades have an estimated timeframe.

Officials at Palisades tell our newsroom the repairs will be wrapped up "soon," but have not offered any specific deadline. Mitlyng says the issue is highly technical, hence the need for them to send a specialist.
