Free Tax Preparation Assistance at SMC



If you are in need of tax preparation assistance, accounting students at Southwest Michigan College can help you out free of charge. The Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program trains and certifies volunteers to prepare taxes for individuals and families earning $51,000 or less. SMC Accounting Instructor Chip Weeks says the program teaches students the basics of tax preparation.

SMC's Accounting 203 students will be offering VITA February 22nd and March 8th 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 461 of the Barbara Wood building on the college's Dowagiac campus. No appointment is needed, just bring your tax information and most importantly a proof of identification.
