After helping the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police introduce two Senate Bills which later became law, State Senator John Proos is being recognized as one of three MACP Legislators of the Year. Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Chief Milt Agay says Public Act 591 originated after a Michigan University official found a pediatrician downloading child pornography at the hospital, and failed to report it for six months while allowing the doctor to continue to work.
The second Public Act Proos helped pass was PA 623, it grants police officers the same authority as a parole agent. Agay says these would have never gone through without the dedication and help from Proos, and the other MACP Legislators of the Year, Senator Rick Jones of Grand Ledge and Representative John Walsh of Livonia.
