Congressman Fred Upton had said before the State of the Union speech Tuesday night that he didn't want to hear another campaign speech from President Obama, but that's exactly how some pundits have described it. The St. Joseph Republican said there needs to be a singular focus from the White House.
Unemployment under President Obama has never fallen below 7.8%, and the rate has been stable since September 2012. It reached 10% in October, 2009, the first time the jobless figure had been in double-digits since Ronald Reagan's presidency. Unemployment was over 10% from September 1982 to June 1983. Upton called for a balanced budget and a narrowing of the gap between spending and revenues.
