St. Joseph Public Schools don't close very often, but when they do, the city wants parents and students to know they'll have something in the city to do. Brian Dwan manages the John and Dede Howard Ice Arena and says the one time the district was closed for weather so far this year, they didn't get a lot of extra people on the ice.
The city commission set that policy last night to have free admission for students at St. Joseph and Lake Michigan Catholic schools whenever those districts are shut down due to weather. The city also gave Dwan the green-light for a promotion next year on Valentine's Day to have the ice painted pink and hold open skating from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
