It looks like gas prices are on the way back up this week, and are expected to move sharply higher. GasBuddy.com analyst Greg Laskoski says they are predicting a spike to as high as $3.89 per gallon in Michigan by the middle of this week.
He says those refineries have been running at around 88% capacity, and any move downward will bring a jump in the price we pay at the pump. The lowest price in the St. Joseph and Benton Harbor area as of early this afternoon was $3.59 at the BP station in downtown St. Joseph, while most other stations were around the $3.67 mark. Prices in South Haven are hovering about a dime higher at $3.77, while over the border in South Bend prices are as low as $3.63 right now.
As of 1:40 p.m. Monday, wholesale gas prices in the Chicago market, which includes us, were down nearly five-cents a gallon from their opening price and stood at $2.92. That price is 50-cents per gallon higher than it was on January 16.
