Lawmakers Ready To Tackle Dredging Issues



Lakes Michigan and Huron are close to their lowest levels in history, and Lake Superior isn't far off itself. As a result, harbors including St. Joseph have been closed and many recreational boaters and commercial shipping operations are wondering what the future holds. After several years of calls for action from the likes of Representative Al Pscholka and Senator John Proos, bi-partisan caucuses are being formed in Lansing to address coming up with money for dredging. Proos says they hope to find the cash soon.

He's joined by Senator Geoff Hansen of Muskegon as the co-founders of the Michigan Waterways Caucus in the Senate, and Hansen says all good ideas will be entertained.

Proos says roughly 40 members of the state House and another 19 Senators have districts that are on the water with ports and harbors that need attention.
