President Obama and Congress are now trying to find some middle ground on immigration reform with a bi-partisan group from the US Senate this week unveiling their proposals and Obama laying out his ideas today in Las Vegas. Congressman Fred Upton is encouraged.
Upton says too many businesses rely on immigrants for Congress and the White House to fail to find a solution to the problem. Senator John McCain said this week the plan the Senate has come up with closely resembles legislation the late Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy had advocated. The White House plan calls for a path to allow those already here to earn their way towards citizenship, saying it's "not practical to deport 11 million" people. It also includes cracking down on employers who hire undocumented workers and doing more to strengthen border security.
