A local business owner says it's hard to fathom the disaster that took place this weekend in a Brazil nightclub. Tom Jennings, owner of Czar's 505 in St. Joseph was reacting to a fire that killed 233 people Sunday morning, as they tried escaping a nightclub reportedly 1,000 people over capacity. When it comes to fire safety at Czar's, Jennings says a sprinkler system is the first line of defense.
Though only one entrance is used during business hours, Jennings says there are a total of four ways to exit the club and he makes sure people can easily see them.
The fire at Kiss nightclub in Brazil was reportedly caused by pyrotechnics used by the band on stage.
