Obama Proposes Gun Control Measures

President Obama is taking 23 executive actions aimed at curbing gun violence that don't require congressional action, including measures to encourage schools to hire police officers, increase research on gun violence and improve efforts to prosecute gun crime. Zack Pohl is the executive director of Progress Michigan and likes what he heard.

Listen:

Roy Daugherty of Point Blank Shooting Range in Benton Harbor is hoping the legislative proposals don't go through. He says reviving the assault weapons ban won't do much, if anything, to curb violence and reducing the amount of ammunition in a clip to just 10 bullets also won't be effective.

Listen:

Daugherty says business has roughly tripled since all the talk began of more gun control. The executive actions are part of an overarching package assembled by a task force led by Vice President Joe Biden. The measures come a month after the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut that killed 20 elementary school children.
