Some Residential Property May Become Commercial in South Haven

The future Meijer store in South Haven Township is already affecting a neighboring mobile home park. A vote at Wednesday night's Township Board meeting gave initial approval to a request from the mobile home park owners to rezone the southern half of the property from residential to commercial. Property owner Michael Callaghan tells the "Herald-Palladium" a lot of retailers and other commercial entities are interested in the property. If commercial development does take place on the site, it's estimated 26-mobile homes would be affected. Those residents would be relocated to other mobile homes in the northern half of the property, currently only 60 of the park's 110 lots are occupied. The Meijer store, which is being built north of Phoenix Road, is scheduled to open next year.
