Senator John Proos is touting the work done in the last state Legislature to turn the state's economy around. The St. Joseph Republican says jobs are being added throughout the region.
Proos says Cass and Van Buren jobless rates have fallen nearly 50% since he moved to the Senate two years ago, while Berrien County's unemployment rate is down 39% in the same time. The senator says replacing the Michigan Business Tax to stop double taxation on businesses and phasing out the personal property tax paid by businesses on new equipment. In a statement, Proos does not mention the enactment of right-to-work legislation that sharply divided lawmakers last month and brought thousands of protesters to Lansing.
