Brand new MacBook Air laptops have started to arrive at Upton Middle School in St. Joseph. The computers are being provided by a grant through the St. Joseph Public School Foundation and will be handed out in the second semester of this year to every sixth grader in the district. It's part of the international 1-1 Initiative, which provides computers to students to help them learn technology skills and also to expand the classroom beyond the walls of the school. St. Joseph Public Schools' 2012 Educational Technology Plan includes having school-provided laptops or utilizing students' own computers for grades 6 through 12 by 2015. WSJM News has attempted to reach the St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation and Superintendent Ann Cardon for comment.
