The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has selected August Zielke to serve the remainder of the term of Bob Forker on the Berrien County Road Commission. Forker died last week after spending 30 years on the road commission. County Commissioner Cathy Thieneman downplayed the concerns of other commissioners to how Zielke was selected, saying he was qualified and the best candidate available.
Zielke had been interviewed for three previous vacancies on the road commission after the county board fired two commissioners and a third resigned. That was due to the controversy over how the Road Commission handled the accusations of 13 non-union employees of a hostile work enviroment under three managers who are also now out of work.
