Be Cautious of Scammers

Local officials are urging residents to be cautious when being asked for money over the phone. The St. Joseph Department of Public Safety is aware of recent attempts made by scammers who claim they are relatives or friends in need of money to be bailed out of jail or some other plight. St. Joseph Department of Public Safety Director Mark Clapp says if you receive such a call.

Listen:

Typically, the caller will hang up once they realize you suspect the call is a scam. Always double check the info given by the caller, also contact the friend or relative they claim to be. If you think a scam has been tired on you, the Department of Public Safety urges you to contact your local police department.
