Live Mannequins And Light Up The Bluff Hugely Successful

Friday night was huge for businesses in downtown St. Joseph with the Light Up The Bluff and Live Mannequin events. Larry Schuler, the owner of Schu's Grill and Bar, says they did business that was nearly on-par with a summertime night.

Listen:

Schuler credited the city of St. Joseph, St. Joseph Today and its new executive director, Jill Stone, and with the Southwest Michigan Tourist Association for the success of the event. He says the retailers also did big business and got a lot of traffic thanks to the Live Mannequins in the storefronts. Schuler says he's hopeful the event can be a springboard to further success during the February ice carving event and even into 2014 when the Senior PGA returns to Benton Harbor. Many restaurants and businesses in the entire area experienced drops in traffic and sales during the golf tournament this year, as people stayed away from the central business districts in St. Joseph and Benton Harbor to a lesser extent to avoid what had been expected to be large crowds from out of town. Those didn't materialize.
