A Hartford woman will spend two months in jail for lying about a rape. 24-year-old Ashley White pled no contest on Monday to a false report of a felony after she had said she was drugged, kidnapped and raped after a party in Covert. The "Herald-Palladium" reports White woke up at an apartment in Berrien Springs, and prosecutors said her story was made up to get a ride back home to Hartford. She later admitted she made up the tale. White will have to pay restitution for what Berrien County Trial Court Judge Dennis Wiley called a "wild goose chase" by police. Assistant Berrien County Prosecutor Kelly Travis chastised White for making up a rape story, saying it puts victims of sexual assault "years behind in being taken seriously."
