Scammers are hitting Southwest Michigan, yet again. The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department reports a Bloomingdale Township couple is out $800 after scammers convinced them they won nearly two grand. A package was sent to the couples home, they were instructed to confirm they received the package via text message. The couple was provided a check for $1,979 also a survey, they were told to cash the check and send back all but $150, which they could keep for taking a survey. The victims only had $800 in their bank account, so they sent all $800. The check they used was fraudulent, they now have an empty account. The Sheriff's Department urges you to use caution when receiving a notification of winning money.
