South Haven Looking At Phoenix Street Project

The city of South Haven is considering a six-month project to revamp Phoenix Street through downtown. City Manager Brian Dissette says they're getting an application ready for a grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation by the end of this month.

Listen:

Dissette told a joint meeting of the City Council and Downtown Development Authority Monday night that the six months of construction won't be fun, but they will be worth it once it's over if the grant is approved. The council and DDA approved a resolution for the city to proceed in applying for the $750,000 grant, with the DDA paying the remainder of the project costs. In addition to a new road, a larger water main would be installed, public Wi-Fi would be expanded downtown and the bicycle lane running southbound on Broadway would be extended.
