The owner of a nearly six and a half acre piece of land in Lincoln Township wants to build upscale apartments, but those who turned out to a township planning commission public hearing don't like the idea. The land is near the intersection of Marquette Woods Road and Red Arrow Highway and is currently vacant. The owner and developer says more apartments are needed in the area, as nearly all of the units are now rented out with a 97% occupancy rate. Neighbors spoke out against the proposal, with one fearing rezoning the land will lead to other development and bring in things like fast-food restaurants. Another spoke up and called the developer's plan a "sales pitch." The planning commission will consider the comments along with the proposal and could take a vote on it in January. If they approve it, the plans would then go to the Berrien County Planning Commission and then the Lincoln Township Board.
