Two More SW Michigan Residents Killed In Meningitis Outbreak

Two more southwestern Michigan residents have died in the fungal meningitis outbreak. A Cass County woman died in Elkhart, Indiana earlier this fall after receiving steroid shots in Elkhart for back pain, and now we have learned the latest local victims are from Edwardsburg and Constantine. 83-year-old Jack Durben of Edwardsburg passed away on November 10, while 87-year-old Viola Copsy of Constantine died this morning. A lawsuit will be filed by the Foley and Small law firm, and more will follow. None of the deaths are being counted as Michigan cases. So far, eight official deaths in Michigan are linked to the outbreak, with 164 total cases. The tainted steroids came from a Massachusetts pharmaceutical company that is now the subject of congressional investigations.
