The Palisades nuclear power plant is currently shut down due to a steam leak. Plant spokesman Mark Savage says plant operators were making rounds Sunday morning when they found some drops of water in the auxilary building.
Savage says they had to shut the plant down in order to make the repairs, so Palisades was taken off-line just before 4:30 Sunday afternoon. He adds at no time were employees or the public in any danger from the incident. Savage says the leak is in a line about 3/4 of an inch in diameter.
Repairs are being made, but Savage would not say what the expected completion date is. The plant had just come through drills with the federal government, passing a simulated disaster test with flying colors.
