You can count state Representative Bob Genetski of Saugatuck as a likely "no" vote on Proposal 5 next week. That proposal requires a two-thirds vote of the state House and Senate or a statewide vote on a November ballot for any new taxes or increased taxes. The Republican lawmaker says getting a two-thirds majority on issues like that is very hard in Lansing.
Genetski says the new business tax structure enacted by lawmakers and Governor Snyder would not have gone through under Proposal 5. Backers of the proposal want it in place to force lawmakers to make structural changes to state govenment when it comes to money.
