NTSB Issues Preliminary Report On Niles Derailment

The NTSB has issued a preliminary report on the Amtrak derailment in Niles over the weekend. The agency is blaming a switch which had been reversed for sending the train off the main tracks and into a rail yard. No one was seriously hurt, but about 10 people did get some medical treatment. At the time of the derailment, there were 174 passengers and staff members on the train. The NTSB says while the preliminary report has been put together, a full accounting of the accident won't be done for at least six months, and very possibly up to a year. The train was headed from Chicago to Kalamazoo.
