South Haven City Manager Talks North Beach Dispute



There's a dispute brewing in South Haven over just who owns North Beach. An Indiana company is claiming in a lawsuit that it owns the land, while the city has countersued. City Manager Brian Dissette says the city believes it will retain ownership after the legal fight is settled.

People who live in the Monroe Park subdivision near the beach are also being sued by Thayer Properties LLC, while they've been added as plaintiffs to the city's lawsuit. Dissette has been working with those landowners in the dispute, and have asked them to all sign documents saying they support South Haven's efforts to maintain ownership. He says for about the last decade, the original plot documents have been discussed dating back around 100 years.

Dissette says Thayer Properties has owned a parcel in the Monroe Park subdivision for about two years.
