Niles-Area Crash Claims Lives Of Two Girls



A six-year-old and a nine-year-old girl have died and two people were badly hurt in a car crash near Niles yesterday afternoon. Michigan State Police say 19-year-old Sarah Michael of Niles ran a stop sign and was hit broadside by a Dodge Ram pickup. The driver of the pickup was not hurt, but Michael was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital and released last night. A four-year-old girl survived, but is still in critical condition at Memorial Hospital. All three little girls had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews. The six-year-old was pronounced dead at Lakeland Hospital in Niles shortly after the accident, while the nine-year-old died last night at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
