Palisades Official Says Plant Is Improving

The Palisades nuclear plant remains ranked at the bottom of the nuclear facilities in the nation, and it bothers those who work there. Tony Vitale is the vice president of operations at the plant and says they are making the changes needed to no longer be listed among the four worst plants in the country by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Listen:

Vitale has been meeting with small groups of employees to find out what their feelings are about the steps taken so far, and says the safety culture is getting better. That culture was shredded in an investigation by a third party earlier this year, and employees will be surveyed again later this year as a follow-up. Both the NRC and plant officials say while the plant has had to be shut down for various issues several times, at no time was public safety ever at risk.
