He was a trusted family friend, but that trust is likely gone for good as Joseph Shoemaker sits in the Berrien County Jail. Undersheriff Chuck Heit says the 35-year-old had been living with friends in Galien for several years until he was caught a few days ago allegedly putting a camera in a shower.
Shoemaker is facing charges of eavesdropping and capturing an image of an unclothed person, both felonies. Heit says they don't know yet if the camera captured any images of the three children who lived at the home. Shoemaker was arrested and arraigned this week and is due back in court on Friday. If he is able to post bail, he will be forced to wear an electronic monitoring device.
