Man And Woman In Van Buren County In Trouble For Abandoning Animals

The Van Buren County Sheriffs Department says that two recent Mattawan residents could be facing animal cruelty charges for moving out of their home and leaving behind a dog, a kitten, and a guinea pig with no food or water. Deputies were dispatched to the Fourth Avenue residence on Thursday. They say the 35 year old woman and 31 year old man had been evicted, and when the landlord came to check the place out a few days after the pair had left, he found the animals still there, along with nothing else. Now, police are trying to track down the man and woman. In the meantime, the rescued animals are in the care of authorities, and appear to be in OK condition.
