Nearly three months ago, over a dozen non-union employees of the road commission submitted allegations of a hostile work environment and mismanagement by managing director Rhonda Hildebrand, traffic services manager Kevin Reed and superintendent David Fritz. After an independent investigation, the Road Commission Board says they will remain employed, though Hildebrand is out as the managing director and will return to her previous job of finance director. Just who is now in charge of the road commission is not yet known. As for the third party report, road commission attorney Michael Kluck says they're keeping it under lock and key.
The board will bring in experts to coach and train the management of the road commission on how they should be dealing with their employees and other governmental agencies in Berrien County. Foreman Don Geisler told the board it won't work.
The moves by the board came after a six-hour meeting Wednesday.
