The First Tee of Benton Harbor held its first scholarship award dinner on Thursday as it honored local students and volunteers. Keynote speaker was Whirlpool CEO Jeff Fettig, who told WSJM that the First Tee program is about more than just golf. He said that it teaches young people about life, character, and respect:
Winner of the First Tee's Volunteer of the Year Award was former Benton Harbor Teacher Troy Jones...and the recipient of The First Tee's 25 hundred dollar scholarship this year is Benton Harbor graduate Trianna Sutton. The First Tee's Ebon Sanders says that she makes the group proud:
You may also remember Sutton as the student who got the first hole-in-one by a woman ever at Harbor Shores a couple of years ago. Also Thursday, The First Tee showed off its new golf academy, which will be used to train some of the more advanced young golfers. It's located at Harbor Shores.
