The NRC is cracking down on the Palisades nuclear power plant again with a special inspection regarding this week's shutdown. The facility shut down on Sunday when a leak was found in a control rod drive mechanism inside the containment building. Now, a three member team from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has been sent it. It'll review the utility's monitoring of the leak and subsequent plant shutdown, verify the adequacy of radiological controls, evaluate any potential degradation, and review the plants repair actions. It will also examine Entergy's reporting requirements and its plan for addressing the cause of the event. This week's issue at Palisades was not related to a previous leak that led to a month long shutdown earlier this summer.
