Watervliet Man Expected To Be Charged With Murder In Death Of Infant

The Watervliet man accused of killing his infant yesterday is due in court this afternoon in St. Joseph. WOOD-TV reports he is 24-year-old Casey Ladd, and will be charged with murder. Police were called to his apartment yesterday morning on a report of an infant who had stopped breathing. The child was first taken to Lakeland Hospital and then airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, where the baby was pronounced dead. An autopsy is being performed on the child today at Lansing's Sparrow Hospital. The Berrien County Sheriff's Department arrested Ladd, citing quote, "the suspicious and unusual circumstance surrounding the call" that was placed to 9-1-1. The name of the baby has not been released.
