South Haven Company Honored By State

The state is honoring South Haven's Albemarle Corporation. The company has received the Rising Star Award from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which is given to companies with an outstanding safety and health management system. Another prerequisite is companies must have on-the job injury rates below the state average for three years. There were no instances at Albemarle in 2008 and 2009, and a rate of 1.6 in 2010, well below the state average in the Medicinal and Botanical Manufacturing sector of 2.63 for those three years. The company has 126 employees and makes pharmaceutical ingredients, food additives and custom chemicals.
