This week, Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower talked a bit about his ideas for making the local water plant more sustainable by finding new customers for it...and one thing he mentioned was working out a possible distribution deal with a private water bottling company. Now, City Commissioner Dennis Knowles is pointing out that he floated a similar idea a couple years ago. Knowles says that he had a proposal to work with a Nebraska company to bottle and sell water, but it was rejected by the commission -- including Hightower -- outright:
Knowles says that he applauds the mayor for looking for ways to better run the water plant, but he wonders why his own ideas were dismissed. It's a subject he's likely to bring up at the next city commission meeting.
