Three Running For Berrien Drain Commissioner Next Week



This year's race for Berrien County Drain Commissioner is one of the livlier ones that we've seen in recent times, as three Republicans run in the August seventh primary. Current Drain Commissioner Roger Zilke is seeking another term, and tells us that he's got the knowledge to continue pushing forward with projects that help keep your basement from flooding...and in a way that's cost effective:

Zilke cites the Hickory Creek drain project as one of his successes, and points to his efforts in recent years to cooperate more with other agencies, like the Department of Transportation, to reduce project costs. Running against him is Christropher Quattrin, a civil engineer who says that Zilke hasn't protected water quality enough:

He says more needs to be done to reduce water runoff. Meanwhile, Rich Hurst is hoping that his four years of experience as a field supervisor for the drain commission will help him win next week. Hurst says that taking care of the current drainage system will be key to keeping costs down in the long run:
